Solutions

Get Kegeling!
Start doing your Kegel exercises.  Building strength in your pelvic floor may help ease your pain.  Remember to start slowly and don’t continue doing your Kegel exercises if you feel pain.

Lube it up!
Breastfeeding can lower the amount of estrogen in your body.  This can decrease your libido and cause vaginal dryness.  So load up on lubrication!  KY Jelly and Astroglide are readily available, or you can try natural products like Silk and O’My Natural Lubricant.  Lubrication may help your partner slip slide over scar tissue!

Face cream for your vagina?
Your doctor may recommend estrogen cream to help counteract vaginal dryness caused by the reduced estrogen from breastfeeding.  Estrogen comes in cream or pill form and is easy to apply.

Use your imagination.
OK, so the reality right now is you can’t have hours-long wild crazy intercourse. But sexual intimacy with your partner can be more than just intercourse.  Here’s an opportunity to explore and try something new.  So get out the massage oil, light some candles and let your imagination go.

Relax
Remember, most women will heal – it’s just a matter of time.  In the meantime, for the sake of your kids, your partner and yourself, try not to panic.  The more stress in your body, the longer it will take to heal.   If you can, take some time to relax – get a pedicure, have a massage or try a little meditation.
