Getting Help

Where’s your head?
For some moms pain after delivery affects the way they think, not only about sex, but about their sexual identity.  Some say they “felt less like a woman.” Others say a whole side of them shut down and they wonder if they’ll ever find their inner sexy mama again.  You can’t ignore the emotional impact painful sex can have on you – and on your relationship with your partner.  That’s why it’s so important to talk about it.

Open up!
Talk about sex?  Are you crazy!  And that’s pretty much how everyone feels about it – even doctors.

Medical office reports reveal that physicians only ask women questions about sexual function 2% of the time at routine visits.

Don’t suffer in silence.
Start with your doctor.  Connect with a therapist who specializes in sexual issues.  Find a physiotherapist with expertise in pelvic floor rehabilitation.  And always, always, ALWAYS be open and honest with your partner.  Keep in mind, painful sex after having a baby is common and it’s unfortunate that we don’t talk about it more.
