Causes of Dyspareunia
Why does sex hurt so much? Well your pelvic floor has just endured a fair bit of strain popping out your cute little cherub. So there are a number of causes for your pain:
- Strain or injury to your pelvic floor muscles or nerves
- Tear to your perineum and resulting stitches to repair your perineum
- Scar tissue that can develop from an injury or stitches
Any of these can make it painful to have sex – at least until they heal. And that’s the amazing thing about a woman’s pelvic floor: its uncanny ability to heal. And like any injury to your body, it’s just a matter of time. Keep in mind everyone heals in their own time. For some moms its a few weeks, for others a few months and for a number of moms, healing can take even longer – and it’s all perfectly normal.
