“Great, I might have a prolapse!  Now what?”

Step One:  Get professionally diagnosed

Make an appointment with a gynecologist or urogynecologist.

What’s a uro … what?  A urogynecologist is a gynecologist with a specialty in female urology.  A urogynecologist offers a more holistic approach to your pelvic floor but she/he may be hard to find depending on where you live as this not a well known medical discipline.

The doctor will need to perform an internal exam.  By simply feeling inside your vagina, your doctor will be able to diagnose your prolapse.  Your prolapse will be graded with a number between one and four.  Number one is considered mild and number four means your prolapse is protruding outside your vagina.

Tip:  If you can, try to get a second opinion on your prolapse.  You’d be surprised how differently doctors will diagnose your prolapse.

Find a gynecologist or urogynecologist near you.

Step two:  Don’t panic!  Breathe …

OK, ok, so it all sounds very gruesome!  But it is certainly possible to live with
a prolapse; it all depends on the symptoms and how they impact your daily
life.  Some women live a full life with a severe prolapse, they just find a way
to manage the symptoms.  Other women may have a prolapse and not even know it!
